Who we are
This is TalesOftTavelAndTech.com and this is my privacy statement, created because the EU seems to want it. I publish this website because I want people to consider travel or enjoy my stories — not because I want to collect anyone’s data and I do not collect data.
I also don’t want you to create any account on this site so there is no potential data breach.
That said, if you want me to delete whatever I have about you, email me and I’ll be happy to do so.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
- My own words:
- In order to leave me a comment, I require your name and email address. This is to protect my site from spam. (Akismet is my first defense. Then I weigh the legitimacy of what Akismet lets through.) I will not sell your name and/or email. I will not share it with anyone. I will not use it to solicit you. Your name and email reside in my WordPress database along with the comment. If, at any time, you wish me to remove your comment, let me know and I will.
Because I personally manually approve all comments, you have the option of telling me not to publish your comment (although using the Contact page is more logical for that.). I do not require you to create an account, which would cause storage of info. - As you compose your comment, you have two options that will use your name and email:
- Notify me of new comments via email
- Notify me of new posts via email

- Jetpack’s words:
- When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
- An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
NOTE: Depending on which contact form I use:
- When you leave a comment, you may have the option to log in using one of your social media accounts. I hate this option and beg you not to do it here or anywhere else, but at this time there is no ability to turn it off.
- When you leave a comment you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in a cookie. This cookie will last for one year. I will never see that info or use it for other than this comment feature.
Contact forms
- My own words:
If you use my contact form or note in a comment that you’d like to be me to contact you, I will have your name and email address, IP# and maybe URL.
Embedded content from other websites
[This part is generated from WordPress and is accurate, but I do not tend to embed.]
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
What rights you have over your data
[Jetpack-generated words:]
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Analytics
I use StatCounter to see how many people visit a page or revisit my site. I don’t collect anything for that. I need to see what StatCounter says and put that here.
